Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Paladin, Inc. | Michigan City, IN & Surrounding Areas

If you believe every person deserves dignity, purpose, and a good life, you’ll fit right in with us at Paladin.
Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) make a real difference every day — helping adults with developmental disabilities live more independently, build meaningful skills, and connect with their communities.

It’s hands-on, heart-forward work that matters.

Why You’ll Love It Here

We know the work isn’t always easy — but it’s deeply rewarding. You’ll be part of a supportive team that celebrates progress, big and small.

Here’s what our DSPs say they value most:

  • The relationships they build with participants

  • Seeing someone reach a new goal because of their support

  • The variety — no two days are the same

  • Knowing their work has meaning

We also offer:

  • Paid training

  • Growth and advancement opportunities

  • Supportive supervisors and coworkers

  • The chance to make a real, visible impact in your community

What You’ll Do

You’ll support people with disabilities to learn, maintain, or increase their independent living skills through person-centered activities — including daily living, recreation, and community engagement.

Depending on your program area, your work may include:

  • Assisting with personal care and health needs

  • Supporting individuals in community and recreational activities

  • Teaching life skills and encouraging independence

  • Providing transportation to activities or appointments

  • Helping with behavior support plans and daily documentation

  • Promoting safety, dignity, and respect at all times

Some roles may also include participation in creative arts, computer lab activities, residential support, or pre-vocational programs.

What Helps You Succeed

  • Compassion, patience, and a sense of humor

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if transporting participants)

  • Willingness to complete required trainings (CPR, behavior support, etc.)

  • Ability to lift and assist with mobility as needed

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; one to two years of experience in social services, special education, nurse’s aide work, or disability support preferred.
